Label regular (for a career defining two releases now) Jag Limbo returns to Collective Leisure with a two tracker, alongside a remix from Lobster Theremin bod Kempston Hardwick (who might sound like a fondly remembered train station on the edge of the Pennines that got closed after the Beeching Report, but is in fact a purveyor of bespoke neo garage (UK).)
'Long Time Coming' combines punchy broken beats, shards of cascading synth and fragments of soulful vox for a drifty, summer-dusk friendly expedition.'Never Stop' works a fuller vocal around a 4/4 backing, with 808 percs, warm bass and minor key pads doing the heavy lifting for a slightly edgier basement feel. Hardwick's take on 'Long Time Coming' evokes hazy images of Girls FM crackling away in the wobbly car journey back from the Frog and Nightgown in 94/95, hiding from the Old Kent Road's afternoon sun, trying not to think about Monday approaching.
Winged Wheel anchor their Space Age grooves in rock, the muscle of drum and bass and guitar undergirding wild flights of fancy. Bandcamp Album of the Day May 3, 2024
